Bravo to Sean Kirtley and his legal team. When Sequani claims that activists who air Sequani's dirty laundry on the internet are violating democratic rights one starts giggling hysterically. Freedom of speech is a democratic right. Since when is the publising and protesting of cruelty to animals non-democratic? The judge's bias - i..e his killing of defencelss animals (a keen hunter) should have precluded him from hearing this case.

I am sorry that Sean spent such a long time behind bars, and wish him only the best. Bravo Sean, and thank you for being the voice of the voiceless.

What are you suggesting then? That medical advancement is ceased? Would you be prepared to put yourself up for medical trials in order to replace animal procedures?
And Sequani, like all UK testing laboratories, would use adequate anaesthetics to ensure that non of the animals they use are in pain. What benefits would laboratories get from making animals unnecessarily suffer?

The Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 was created so that animals could be abused in categories how can you possibly say that animals are not treated cruelly in order to reproduce the symptoms of human conditions they must be put in a state that mirrors human "dis" "ease". The fact is that animals inside labs are treated in a way that if the same thing was inflicted by a member of the public who wasn't working under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 would be imprisoned or at least fined and banned from keeping animals. Even Sequani would admit that animals suffer and are in pain, it is a fact...

Firstly, I didn't say I wanted a job there, and I didn't say animal testing was ideal. It's not a pleasent thought for anyone to think animals are being used for our own personal benefit. And yes, I am aware that the US Food and Drug Administration published figures stating that 92% of drugs that pass animal testing, fail human trials, and I too agree that this is quite a shocking figure. However, as currently there are nowhere near enough alternatives out there, it would be impossible to completely end testing right at this minute in time. And yes I am aware that there are some alternatives out there, before you suggest I am ignorant to this. I strongly believe that alternatives such as Corrositex, and Irritection Assay Systems, (which are both excellent substitutes for animals' skin) should be used where-ever possible, and I hope too that one day animal testing can be completely stopped.

I don't however believe that the animals in testing labs are cruelly treated, particularly not those in UK laboratories due to the strict regulations under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986. However I was highly sceptical when entering Sequani, and I too was worried I would find unhappy, stressed, mistreated animals. But as I explained before this is not what I found.

I do understand that you are all campaigning for a good cause, and I too agree that alternatives need to be implemented quicker, but targeting animal testing laboratories that do ensure high welfare standards, I don't believe is the way to go about it.

As for your disclaimer 'please make all communications polite', I think your reply was far from it.

I myself as a student at Worcs university doing a degree in animal welfare and management have also been to Sequani, but I found the experience far from what has been described. The rats, mice and dogs that I saw were all healthy, and the dogs were all friendly and wanted attention from our group. If these animals had been 'abused' then why would they not be frightened of us? As for 'shoving tubes down rats throats', this is a standard procedure, and the rats didn't take any notice, they carried on like nothing had happend afterwards.
I love animals, don't get me wrong, but websites such as this fabricate animal testing units, making them look dirty and old using black and white photos. From what I have seen they're cleaner than the average boarding kennels.
Anyway I'm sure all of you take paracetamol, or would happily take cancer treatment for yourself or a family member?? If so then you have no case against animal testing.

Our Response // Well we are glad that you are doing a course in animal welfare and management i'm sure your job at Sequani will be secure as you found forcing drugs into animals stomachs so bearable. "I love animals" what a bloody absurd comment from someone who thinks that systematic animal abuse is OK. Maybe you could spend some time researching exactly how many lives are taken by misleading animal test results then come back and we could talk about "taking paracetamol" WHICH by the way is highly poisonous to cats so if we took these results as an accurate marker for human efficacy we would have never even bothered with using it in humans.
